We are pleased to invite you to share your views on the proposed development at Upper Callerton, Newcastle.

The 97ha site has been allocated for a housing-led development in Newcastle City Council’s Core Strategy and Urban Core Plan. This consultation relates to the form of the proposals coming forward at the site. This consultation sets out a proposed Masterplan for the site, as well as a range of detailed technical information about the proposal and design.

The site is in multiple ownership, and the landowners have formed a consortium to progress the planning application and subsequently the development of the site. The consortium, known as the Upper Callerton Consortium, have come together to develop a cohesive masterplan for the whole site. The individual plots of land will then be developed by the members in line with the approved masterplan.

The team contains four land-owning parties; Northumberland Estates, Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon, and the Quadrini Family, with Lichfields acting as the planning consultants for the consortium.

The Team

Northumberland Estates is a privately owned family business which represents the business interests of the Duke of Northumberland and the Percy family. Centuries of history provide the foundations of an organisation which invests for the long term.

The methods by which this is achieved may have evolved and changed over the decades, but the remit remains the same – to create an income stream to enable the business to continue to preserve and enhance its many heritage assets, create jobs and continue as a major contributor to the local economy here in the North East.

Taylor Wimpey are a national housebuilder with a local presence, operating from 23 regional offices across England, Scotland and Wales. We aim to be the developer of choice for customers, employees, communities and shareholders. We build a wide range of properties, from one- and two-bedroom apartments to six bedroom detached houses, with a broad price range including both private and affordable homes.

We understand that development is about more than creating homes and we provide millions of pounds worth of infrastructure, for example roads, sewers, landscaping and community facilities, every year across the UK. We aim to develop vibrant communities with a true sense of place that fit into their surrounding area and meet the needs of local people.

Founded in 1972, Persimmon Homes is one of the UK’s leading housebuilders. With headquarters in York, the Group operates from 31 regional offices throughout the UK, trading under the brand names of Persimmon Homes, Charles Church and Westbury Partnerships, building quality homes across England, Wales and Scotland.

The company directly employs more than 5,000 people and supports around 86,000 jobs in the construction sector.
